Volume 2016 Issue 7
NTS President Bjarne Winkler
In this newsletter's main column we addressed the ECM Maintenance from the Reseller / Integrator viewpoint.

What do the Client / User of the ECM system really need with regards to Maintenance?

Yes, they do want to be current so known bug fixes and new features are in place.

Yes, they do want to be trained so they can work smarter.

They also want to be sure they have support in case something happens.

However, they also want to ensure that the system is in the best health it can be in, even if that is seldom talked about.

Users internal IT will ensure that all the hardware is running and that Windows patches are applied when needed.

What the internal IT department does not do, is looking for documents that do not have pages or orphan pages that do not have parent documents.

IT does not look to see if all scanned documents are compressed TIFF and not very large BMP files that are eating up all the repository space.

Client / User do not expect that you, the Reseller / Integrator, to do this service, except if that is in the contract. However, they are expecting that the Reseller educate them regarding the issues they could have, how to monitor and fix the issue using a product like the NTS Rx-Manager.

A healthy User installation means a happy Client and a happy Client is a long time customer.

Top Story
Good health is important, and that also goes for your ECM system too.

Good health is obtained by high-quality Maintenance. Maintenance is viewed differently from the ECM Reseller / Integrator and the ECM Client / User.

Rx-Manager is Maintenance

In this column we will look at the Reseller / Integrator side of the equation. In the side column we will be addressing the Client / User side.

For both software Vendors and Resellers, it is important that the Client is current with updates so they are easy to support (everyone is on the same release level) and old stuff with older issues has been put away for good.

Many Reseller / Integrator see Maintenance as a way of supporting the User when they are having issues.

What Resellers do not see is that under the Maintenance umbrella is a way of increasing the usages of the software, more application and more users. The larger the installation, the more secure the installation becomes and the Client will stay loyal to the Reseller.

Great Resellers conduct training seminars to ensure that the Users are well trained, especially in the latest upgrades and features.

This means that Maintenance can lead to increased license sales and even sales of Professional Services.

What Maintenance seldom covers is the health of the installed system. This is where the NTS Rx-Manager can help.

Rx-Manager benefits:
- Show Doc History
- Discovery of Docs without Pages
- Uncovering of Orphan Pages without Docs
- Easy filtering of recorded Audit DB
- Observing real time logins and activities
- Monitoring PID/Lock doc tables
- Detection and Conversion of large BMP to TIFF

With tools like the Rx-Manager, the Reseller does not have to do the hard work; the program will do that part. The User, with the Rx-Manager, can ensure that the system is in a really healthy state.
