NTS PDF Wizard

NTS PDF Wizard

TIFF to PDF the easy way

The NTS PDF Wizard is a production tool for batch converting of standard TIFF files to the Adobe PDF cross platform document type.
In five simple steps the Wizard can be instructed to convert one TIFF image or one million TIFF files to PDF documents, all done as a Lights Out Operation. The PDF documents can then easily be stored on CD, DVD, or transferred to the World Wide Web for easy viewing.
With the Wizards To Do List, the program can be instructed as to which TIFF files should be converted, where the files are located, where the final PDF documents should be stored, and what options should be applied to the conversion.

The NTS PDF Wizard will provide:
Smaller file size.
PDF files can exists in several different formats: Simple bit mapped format. Captured format (OCR'd). OCR'd PDF files are in general four to five times smaller than TIFF files. Non OCR'd PDF documents have the same file size as the original imported images. OCR'd PDF documents gives an add feature to the smaller file size and that is full text search inside the document, or across multiple PDF files.

WEB ready.
PDF documents are WEB ready, and can be read on any cross-platforms of computers. Since the PDF files are smaller than the original TIFF files, the transfer time over the World Wide Web is 4 - 5 times faster than the TIFF files. Today's standard WEB browsers, like the Microsoft Internet Explore, lets the PDF documents be viewed inside the browser. The NTS PDF Wizard even creates a home page (HTML) for your WEB site with links to the PDF documents. On top of all the features the Wizard can include in the PDF document a notices regarding copyright material if needed.

Lights Out Operation.
The Wizard gives Service Bureaus the power of Batch Operation. The program understands and uses control files: Kofax Ascent standard release file. OTG Record Out file format generated by products as; VisionShape, PowerPlus, and FileFlo. ImageMax/DocuTech ScanTrax output file, or any standard ASCII comma delimited file format. The Wizard can also understand the folder layout that the Minolta Epic, MicroDAX, and MI3MS have created. It even understands the ALOS DocuWare baskets, including the data information in the TIFF header. File that are received with the Arial software. No other PDF program is tailored to this type of needs as the NTS PDF Wizard is.
The software was designed with three goals in mind: Easy converting of TIFF files to PDF documents. Utilizing the output file or folder structure that was produced when the TIFF files where created. Lights Out Operation.
The configuration can be stored under a Job / Project, so next time a Job is needed, just reload the saved settings.
The NTS PDF Wizard Log file reports vital information: File and document count. Time spend in each of the conversions phases. Cost or billing information of the job.

NO click charges.
The price is the same. Convert one TIFF image file or one million TIFF files. All PDF documents are 100% Adobe compatible. "This is the real thing".

Windows 95, 98 or NT.
The NTS PDF Wizard is a full 32-bit Object-Oriented program, created by people that understand the needs of a Service Bureau.

The five simple steps:
Input Type
The Wizard either uses a Control file or a Folder structure to find the TIFF files that need to be converted.

One Document per Folder lets the Wizard import files from a folder structure. In the folder the Wizard will find one or more folders. Each folder represents a TIFF document with one or more TIFF files.

Any standard ASCII Comma Delimiter Control files. This includes the output from the NTS CF:Manager (Canofile conversion) program. One field in the control file will determine the document name, and another will point to where the TIFF file or files are stored.

The Kofax Ascent Release file. Normally the user of the Ascent product would have to create a special Release Script. With the NTS PDF Wizard you can use the standard ODBC Release file that is provided by Kofax to manage the Wizard.

The OTG Record Out Control file will guide the Wizard in the Lights Out Operation. This file type is either generated by a scanning program or created by an export function from an imaging system.

Service Bureaus, who are currently using the scanning and indexing software from ImageMax/DocuTech, can use the ScanTrax Control file to guide the Wizard in the conversion of TIFF files.

The Minolta Batch option is used with the Epic (software for the Minolta book scanner), or the MicroDAX (software for the Minolta film scanner) software. The Wizard will read the Batch Definition file (found in the Bn folder) and Document Definition file (found in the Dn folder) for creation of the PDF documents. With this option you can either convert all the batches or just a single batch. The same structure created with Epic and MicroDAX is also generated with the MI3MS imaging software under batch scanning.

Many time when you are using the Minolta Epic software you are also using the Arial software so we included this option in the Wizard.
The NTS PDF Wizard can read and understand the ALOS DocuWare TIFF header and Basket structure and uses that information to create PDF documents.

Save Where.
The Wizard now knows which files should be converted from the Input Type. Next step is to select where to save the PDF documents, the associated Data, Log, and optional HTML file. The Data file is a control file and can be used to import the PDF documents into any database system, including some imaging systems that can store none native (TIFF) file formats. The Log file gives information not only about any problems (like a file that could not be found), but also how many files that has been converted, and what has been done to the files. In addition, the Log file includes information about the time spent on different tasks (importing, OCR'g, creating thumbnails, and saving the documents) for billing and job cost purpose. Under configuration, cost of the different task can be entered into the Wizard. If the cost has been stored, the Log file will provide billing information in format of dollar amounts.
The optional HTML page will show a table in the WEB Browser, from where the WEB Surfer can select to view one or more PDF documents, which at a later time can be stored or printed at the local work station.

PDF Options.
Before starting the conversion, the Wizard can be instructed to do the following:
Import only. The PDF document will be created, but no full text search will be available. Nor will any thumbnails be created for easy navigation inside the document.
Import and OCR the TIFF pages. The PDF document will be created with full text search. Import and Thumbnail guide. The PDF document will be created with thumbnails for easy navigation.
Import, OCR, and Thumbnails guide. The PDF document will be searchable, and include thumbnails for easy guiding.

System Requirement.
Windows 95 / 98 / NT
Ram: 32 Mbytes minimum. 64 or 128 will increase the performance.
Two to three times the hard disk space that the current TIFF files are occupying.

NTS PDF Wizard.
The software includes the Wizard application, the PDF engine, and a set of 32 bits DLL's. Quick start hand guide, and on-line documentation.
The Wizard is sold as a single version application, or as a LAN version. The LAN version comes in increments of ten users at a time. Site licenses can also be obtained upon request.
